Thank You Donald Trump...From Baltimore!
It has been said that "words are the currency of fools." And, with that, I would like to thank Donald Trump for his "investment" in the city of Baltimore.
A year before the 2016 Presidential election, a young man by the name of Freddie Gray lost his life in West Baltimore and it created a sequence of events that shook the very foundation from which I was raised. Some would later call it "an unrest" while others (like me) refer to it as an "uprising". Regardless of it's name, in 2015 the spirit of Baltimore burned brighter than the “over” glorified CVS footage that displayed daily across the national news outlets. What we saw in Baltimore was a movement that revealed systemic wrongs that had long been ignored. And, it was that unapologetic demand for change that rippled across the United States. And, here Baltimore stands four-years later showing no signs of holding back.
I believe in Baltimore just as strongly today as I did four years ago. Just because an individual has the ability to say your name, it doesn’t mean that they have the authority to tell your story. And, take it from this "Bmore girl", no one can tell Baltimore's story better than the people of Baltimore.
Last week, I was asked to speak with Dent Education's summer camp students. I stood in front of these curious faces and I told them that "marketing" is actually very simple. If you want to brand yourself, a product or a destination the first rule is to understand the "Law Of Attraction".
Growing-up in Baltimore taught me that marketing is life, and your life is shaped, formed and created based on what you feel and believe. Marketers create perception, and perception is reality. And, this understanding becomes your most powerful tool.
Use this week as an opportunity to elevate your thinking and own your narrative, unless you would prefer to relinquish your power to others, like the President of the United States.
